- \
- Q: How do I connect a NeXT front end to a VAX Sybase SQL server?\
- \
- A: In order to run a Sybase front end on a Unix platform against a\
- Sybase SQL Server on a DEC VAX machine, you need to have Wollongong\
- networking capability. Sybase currently provides a "Wollongong\
- Server" on DEC VAX. However, with the release of the VMS 4.1 SQL\
- Server, the special server will be discontinued, and its function\
- of connectivity with Unix front ends via Wollongong will be included\
- in the standard release.\
- \
- This new server will offer "mix and match" connectivity to front\
- dnds via both DECnet and TCP/IP, and can connect to front ends on\
- different networks at the same time. TCP/IP products supported are:\
- Wollongong's WIN/TCP, Excelan's Multinet, Excelan's LAN Server, and\
- Novell Netware. Contact Sybase for information concerning the availability\
- of the 4.1 version of SQL Server.\
